Set up automatic reconnect

Connecting a cube needs a browser that speaks Web Bluetooth. On desktop that's Chrome or Edge with a couple of flags turned on; on an iPhone or iPad it's a third-party browser, since Safari doesn't support it.

1. Use a browser that supports it

On desktop, use a Chromium-based browser: Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera. Safari and Firefox don't support Web Bluetooth on any platform.

On iPhone and iPad, Safari can't connect a cube, but Bluefy can. It's a free browser from the App Store that adds Web Bluetooth support. Open speedcube.quest in Bluefy and connect as normal. Two things to know: turn on Enable BLE Advertisements in Bluefy's own settings, or cubes that need their MAC address (most GAN and MoYu cubes) will ask you to type it in; and the Chrome flags in step 2 don't exist there, so skip them.

2. Enable two Chrome flags (desktop only)

Paste each address into your browser's address bar (links to chrome:// pages can't be clicked), set it to Enabled, then relaunch the browser when prompted.

  1. chrome://flags/#enable-experimental-web-platform-features

    Set “Experimental Web Platform features” to Enabled. Required - without this the smart cube won't connect at all. It also turns on the getDevices() API used to find your previously-paired cube.

  2. chrome://flags/#enable-web-bluetooth-new-permissions-backend

    Set “Use the new permissions backend for Web Bluetooth” to Enabled. Lets the browser remember your cube across page refreshes, so it reconnects without the chooser pop-up.

3. Connect your cube once

After relaunching, connect your cube above and pick it from the chooser. That one-time grant is what the browser remembers - from then on the trainer reconnects on its own whenever your cube is on and nearby.
