What is PLL?
PLL (Permutation of the Last Layer) is the last step of CFOP. With the top face already one color, one algorithm moves the last-layer pieces into place and solves the cube. There are 21 PLL cases.
New to PLL? Start with 2-look PLL: 6 algorithms that solve the corners first and the edges second. The "2-look only" button above narrows the drill to exactly those cases.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I practice PLL algorithms?
- Pick which cases to drill, then one of three modes: Flashcard (see the case, recall the algorithm), Virtual Cube (solve on a 3D cube with a Bluetooth smart cube or your keyboard) or Scramble (set the case up on your own cube and solve it). The trainer serves the cases you are still learning, the ones you fail and the slow ones more often than the ones you already know.
- How many PLL algorithms are there?
- There are 21 PLL cases, so full PLL is 21 algorithms. 2-look PLL gets you through the step with 6 of them.
- How does the trainer know which PLL cases I know?
- From the status you give each algorithm in the PLL database: Not known, Failing, Learning, Getting there or Muscle Memory. Filter the drill by status to practice only the cases you are learning, and update a status as it changes.
- Do I need a smart cube?
- No. Flashcard and Scramble work with any cube, and Virtual Cube mode also takes keyboard input. A Bluetooth smart cube lets Virtual Cube mode follow your turns on a real cube.
